Due to the 2013 Young Republican Federation of Virginia (YRFV) Convention this Saturday, the Arlington Falls Church Young Republicans WILL NOT hold our monthly meeting tonight. Instead, we will have an informal meeting during the 2013 YRFV Convention Welcome Reception on Friday night.

I encourage you, however, to attend the campaign kick-off for Ron Meyer for Congress. Ron is an outspoken Young Republican who is focused on highlighting the challenges young Americans face in the Obama economy. Former Congressman Tom Davis is headlining Ron’s event, and it is being held at the home of Tara & Maricio Tamargo — 6448 Lake Meadow Drive, Burke, VA 22015.

Don’t forget about the 2013 YRFV Statewide Convention this Saturday, April 20, at Bailey’s in Ballston. Registration opens at 10:00am and the Convention begins at 11:00am. To be a delegate, you must have filed your delegate form with me by the end of last week. If you did not file to become a delegate, you may still attend the event as a non-voting guest. All candidates for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General have confirmed, so this will likely be one of your last opportunities to ask questions of them before the RPV Convention in May.

Friday night, we’re co-hosting a Welcome Reception with the Young Conservatives Coalition (YCC) for all the delegates to the Convention (as well as D.C.-area YRs) from 7:30pm to 9:15pm on the 3rd floor of the Leadership Institute (1101 N. Highland in Clarendon). After that, YCC is taking the party to RiRa, just a few blocks away, to honor Margaret Thatcher. Thanks so much to Patricia Simpson and Chris Malagisi, who have worked tirelessly to plan both of these events.

Thank you for your interest in the Arlington Falls Church Young Republicans. I am honored to serve as Chairman alongside so many dedicated Republican activists.

We’ve aggressively expanded our organization these last few months, and I believe Arlington Falls Church Young Republicans can continue to grow in this critical election year.

I am privileged to serve with a dedicated team: Matthew Hurtt, Vice-Chairman; Peter Ildefonso, Treasurer; Elizabeth Ellis, Secretary; and Lance Wheeler, Communications Director. I am confident we can build on our success as we look forward to November.

Everything is on the line this year.

We’re implementing a long-term plan to reach out to voters and begin to change the political climate in Arlington.

There was a time when Republicans won elections here, and I am committed to putting us on the path that once again makes the Republican Party viable in Arlington.

I promised as Chairman I would grow our organization, and I have done just that.  Last year the Arlington Falls Church Young Republicans ended the year with 171 full members, and we have secured our place as the largest YR club in the Commonwealth. 

Recruitment will stay an important part of my plan to build the club in the coming year, but I want to take the next step forward and spread our conservative message beyond the AFCYRs.

I will continue to increase the involvement of our members by regularly informing them of opportunities to work on local and state campaigns, volunteer throughout the community, and attend local conservative events. 

We have hosted several high-profile speakers, and I intend to continue to reach out to invite speakers to address our organization. I will also continue to focus on local issues by inviting local activists to educate us on issues that directly affect us.

As Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli is one of the most vocal opponents of federal government overreach. He was the first state Attorney General to file suit against Obamacare in 2010. And in February 2012, he won the “Defender of the Constitution” award at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C. for his tireless defense of the rule of law.

Phone banking and walking at the Alexandria Victory Office!

Our upcoming Chairman election will be at RiRa’s Irish Pub on Monday the 20th, at 7 PM. To participate in the election, you will need to be a paid, active member living in the Arlington or Falls Church area. We will be requiring proof of residence, which means a Photo ID or a piece of mail with your name and address on it. We are also narrowing down the list to paid members, which means if you haven’t paid your dues for 2012, now is the time to do it- you can pay securely online at http://afcyr.org/join-us. We want to make sure everyone who can vote does so, and without voter fraud- we are Republicans after all!

Volunteer with ACRC at the Arlington County Fair

The Arlington County Fair is a great way to get involved, meet local people and help advertise that there are, in fact, Republicans in Arlington. The County Fair goes from Friday, August 10th from 4 PM to 10 PM, Saturay August 11th from 10 AM to 9 PM and Sunday August 12th from 11 AM to 7 PM. Help support the Fighting For Our Future PAC!

Officers of the Young Republican Federation of Virginia (YRFV) have launched the Fighting For Our Future PAC, an independent PAC to put Young Republican boots on the ground to volunteer for crucial races. Poll watch for the Republican Party of Virginia

The RPV is heavily recruiting volunteers to serve as poll watchers around the state. Virginia could very well be the battleground that decides who wins the White House and which party controls the US Senate. Our poll watchers will have two functions; to check off voters and to make sure everything inside the poll place is going smoothly. You can help make sure that happens by going to www.MittRomney.com/orca. Any interested individual can sign up. All who do sign up will receive a short poll watcher training session, most likely online. Sign up today!

Volunteer with the Family Foundation of VA

Are you interested in becoming more active with the Pro-Life Movement? Do you live in the Northern Virginian area? Do you think the country is headed in the wrong direction and want a return to our founding principles? Are you interested in strong family values, religious freedom, property rights, and want this to be reflected in the upcoming election? If so then you can help us out at our new office! Come volunteer with the Family Foundation of VA, where we will be doing phone banking, voter identification, canvassing, community out-reach, and other activities. Tonight’s the night! Star Parker is coming to our YR meeting this evening!

Ms. Parker is President and Founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, a non-profit think tank which advocates for free market alternatives to welfare. Before involvement in social activism, Star had seven years of first-hand experience in the grip of welfare dependency. She now fights for conservative values, regularly appearing on national media to share her story.

“Operation Potomac Crossing” Kickoff Event

The Republican Party of Virginia’s 8th District Committee and the Northern Virginia Young Republican Clubs are organizing “Operation Potomac Crossing,” an effort to flood Northern Virginia with volunteers to ensure victory in a state which is essential to a Republican presidential victory this year, and to retake the Senate. Our very own Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, will be at our new Springfield Headquarters THIS Saturday, July 28th at 9:30am for a special volunteer appreciation event and new Headquarters groundbreaking. Our Braddock District Supervisor, John Cook is also confirmed to be on hand to thank our volunteers. Volunteer for Romney on Super Saturday

This Saturday (July 7th) we are taking part in the RNC’s Super Saturday and we are planning on knocking thousands of doors in northern Virginia and we’d like to invite you to come door to door with us. We will be starting at the Romney for President Virginia HQ (3811 Fairfax Drive – Suite 750) which is located a block from the Virginia Square Metro Station (Orange Line). We have walks leaving the HQ at 9am, 12pm, and 3pm. If you can let us know in advance if you are able to go door to door on Saturday, we would appreciate it. We’ll provide you with walk books, t-shirts, and bottles of water and you can help provide us with the effort it is going to take to win Virginia this fall.

While typical AFCYRs tradition puts our monthly meeting on the 3rd Monday of the month, we are going to be having our regular meeting on the 27th instead. Don’t worry though- after this month we will be returning to our regularly scheduled meetings!

The meeting will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N.
